Proponent Institution

Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S) is a transdisciplinary institution whose mission lies on the promotion of research and innovation in the Health Sciences at the highest international level, while carrying out graduate training and contributing to solve current major societal challenges. Around a thousand collaborators work at i3S, which is organized into three thematic units: Cancer, Host Interaction and Response, and Neurobiology and Neurologic Disorders, encompassing 50 research groups and over 400 researchers with a PhD running more than 192 nationally or internationally funded projects.

Host Institution

Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology (IBMC) is a multidisciplinary research institution that develops research in life and health sciences at the highest international level. The IBMC is organized in three thematic units: Infection and Immunity, Neuroscience and Molecular and Cell Biology, organized into 49 research groups, including over 200 researchers developing more than 100 projects funded from national and international sources.

Participating Institution

Fundação Gaspar Frutuoso (FGF) was established by the University of the Azores (UAc), and is the management structure responsible for financial and formal project's management tasks. The University of the Azores (UAc) is located in the Archipelago of the Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal. It is the only university located in the archipelago and its’ campuses are spread through three different islands (São Miguel, Terceira and Faial). UAc has cooperation agreements with almost 200 universities and research centers in 30 different countries, from America to Europe and Africa.

The Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), based in Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, is a century-old institution, recognized nationally and internationally. UFRGS offers courses in all areas of knowledge and at all levels, from pre-graduate to graduate programs. The qualifications of its faculty, composed mostly by teachers and doctors, the continuous updating of the infrastructure of laboratories and libraries, the increment to the student assistance, as well as the prioritization of its insertion national and international policies are constantly evolving. The high standards of teaching, coupled with research, with recognized standards of excellence, and the extension are the three axis of this University.
